Pain Management

Chronic Pain Management

Much of health and wellness is about being attuned to the signals from your body and mind. This is no different with pain. Pain is feedback. It is a call to action and a warning signal from our brain, there to alert you that something is not right and needs your attention. Unfortunately, for many, pain seems to stick around until it becomes chronic. The longer your nervous system produces pain, the better it gets at producing it. To put it simply, your body learns pain. Getting you completely out of pain or to a point where your pain only feels like an occasional minor discomfort requires deliberate action and attention to the right things. If you suffer from joint pain, muscle pain or nerve pain, Dr. Lewis will work with you one-on-one to provide you with natural and effective options to help you better manage your pain so that you could get back to doing the things you once enjoyed.

His most commonly treated conditions include:

  • Knee pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Ankle pain
  • Hip pain
  • Nerve pain
  • Trigger points formed by tight muscles

Chronic Pain

Our Chronic Pain Management Services

Chronic Knee Pain
Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is a non-surgical, minimally invasive therapy with no lengthy recovery period. It is intended to provide you with long-lasting results by addressing the source of your joint pain. This means sustained relief and improved mobility, over time. The best part is that it is all natural! Prolotherapy taps into your body’s innate healing processes, stimulating stability and function to previously weakened and damaged joints while also reducing reliance on long-term pain medications. This therapy is suitable for conditions such as chronic joint pain, osteoarthritis, tendonitis, and more.

Neural Therapy

Neural Therapy involves the injection of a local anesthetic solution into scars, peripheral nerves, acupuncture points, trigger points, and other tissues in order to treat chronic pain. It is not uncommon for someone with chronic joint or muscle pain to also experience nerve pain – and for good reason. When a nerve is inflamed, it becomes hypersensitive and will amplify the pain signals. Neural therapy is a natural solution for getting those nerves to calm down and resume normal functioning.

Trigger Point Injection

Ever felt a ‘knot’ in one of your muscles? That’s a trigger point. They are hypersensitive to the touch and sit deep in your muscle fibres. Trigger point injection therapy involves injecting a concentrated solution of dextrose and a local anesthetic to help release tight knots, relieve pain and to restore normal function again.

Scar Tissue Healing

The power of the human body to regenerate is amazing. Scar tissue healing is a regenerative injection technique that can reduce pain, increase range of motion, and drastically improve the appearance of scars. If you’ve got old surgical scars you want to tackle, this could be for you.

What To Expect

Dr. Lewis’ aim is to provide you with a clear roadmap to recovery. One that is free from ambiguity. He recognizes that one person’s path to recovery might be different from that of another. Afterall, pain is a very personal thing. There is no one-size-fits-all solution and the road to recovery is non-linear. Along the way, there could be moments where you experience persistent pain, disappointment and setbacks. However, if you stick with it long enough, on the other side of your pain is transformation, enhanced quality of living and, not uncommonly, a return to previous activities.

Initial Pain Evaluation

This is your first point of contact with your designated naturopathic doctor where you both get to decide if you are a good candidate for our pain management services. During your appointment, there will be a thorough history taken as well as a few evaluations to help narrow down the likely source of your pain. If indicated and agreed upon by you and your doctor, a treatment will be given during your first visit to either help confirm your diagnosis, or to begin the healing process. If any lab tests are recommended to help uncover some common dysfunctions that impede or slow your body’s ability to heal and recover, this will be discussed during your appointment.

Lab Review

During this appointment, your naturopathic doctor will go over your test results with you in detail. Should anything abnormal or suboptimal come up, they will also make recommendations on how to correct it. During your visit, your doctor will also lay out your roadmap to recovery to give you a sense of what is required to get better and the estimated number of visits needed to get there. Lastly, since nutrition is foundational to optimizing healing and recovery, nutritional strategies and targeted supplementation will also be discussed during your appointment.

The Third Visit & Beyond

These appointments will consist of a series of regenerative injection therapy (e.g. prolotherapy, neural therapy, trigger point injection). Since every individual is unique, the number of required visits will vary. Nevertheless, it typically takes the average patient four to six visits to achieve desired results. Should your recovery not progress as predictably as we would expect, then we may need to make a course correction to get you back on track. This is when your naturopathic doctor would refer you to go see another trusted pain-relief-focused healthcare professional within the community to have a fresh set of eyes on your case. We do this because we see it as our responsibility to provide you with the best available options, in order to maximize your success.

Supportive Intravenous Nutrient Therapy

This is a terrific way to support your body’s ability to heal and recover faster. At our clinic we are able to offer IV nutrient therapy, personalized to each patient’s individual needs. Our recovery IV infusions are tailored to provide your body with the vitamins, minerals and amino acids required to support tissue healing. These IVs can be done in between your other pain-relief treatments with your naturopathic doctor for more optimal results.

Dr.Lewis is the pro-lo therapy King! He is an expert. A big hearted, determined doctor, who knows his work. A professional at heart. Go see him, he will make you cry tears of joy
